Medical Assistant/Lab Assistant

Adams County Health Center (ACHC) in Council, ID is looking for a motivated, versatile Certified Medical Assistant/Lab Assistant to join our team. 

 Minimum Qualifications:  

  • High School Diploma or GED 

 Requirements: 

  • Medical Assistant Certification 
  • Prior Work Experience and Knowledge

 Responsibilities:  

  1. Supports patient care delivery by helping Providers during examinations noting a brief history or the reason for the visit in the patient’s EHR. Before the Provider arrives, determine if the patient is due for depression screening, mammogram, colonoscopy, and labs.  Complete records by recording patient vital signs and test results.  Huddle with the Provider to go over patient’s needs.  Assist Provider by taking notes during patient visits.  Print patient plan and education. 
  2. Request patient records if needed. 
  3. When requested by Provider, follow-up call to check on the patient. 
  4. Prepare and obtain laboratory specimens; perform basic laboratory tests on the premises and dispose of contaminated supplies.  This may include drawing blood and preparing urine samples.  Ensure release is printed and executed for needed tests. 
  5. Cleaning, preparation and sterilization of medical instruments. 
  6. Administer medications and injections as ordered.  Do double checks with licensed personnel. 
  7. Authorize drug refills as directed and telephone prescriptions to pharmacies as directed by the Provider.  Assist in ordering prescriptions upon Provider request. 
  8. Prepare and take x-rays as ordered by the Provider. 
  9. Take electrocardiograms as ordered by the Provider. 
  10. Remove sutures and change dressings as directed by the Provider. 
  11. Completely fill out lab slips and other forms when necessary. 
  12. Follow universal precautions to protect self and patients per ACHC policies and procedures. 
  13. Stock exam rooms with supplies, inventory stock, and give list for ordering to person responsible for ordering stock. Help put stock away when it arrives. 
  14. Schedule appointments, answer telephones, and collect payments at time of service, if necessary. 
  15. Participate in the daily huddle with other key team members. 
  16. Perform other duties as assigned by Provider.
