Susan Warner FNP-C Achieves Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist Status

June 27, 2024
The Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (CBDCE) announced that Susan Warner FNP-C from Adams County Health Center in Council, Idaho achieved Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) status by successfully passing the Certification Examination for Diabetes Care and Education Specialists. Candidates must meet rigorous eligibility requirements to be able to take the Examination. Achieving certification status demonstrates to people with diabetes and employers that the health professional possesses distinct and specialized knowledge, thereby promoting quality of care for people with diabetes. Currently, there are over 19,900 diabetes care and education specialists who hold CDCES certification. The certification designation was previously known as Certified Diabetes Educator or CDE.
Warner has been employed at Adams County Health Center (ACHC) since 1981 as a registered nurse and as a Family Nurse Practitioner since 2007. She is starting a Diabetes Self-Management Program at ACHC in hopes of helping the local community to receive diabetes self-management education close to home. Prior to her getting this certification, the closest diabetes care and education specialists who were CDCES certified were located either in Boise, Idaho or Grangeville, ID. By getting certified and starting this program, Warner was able to make it so the people in this community will no longer have to drive such a long distance to receive diabetes self-management education. Currently, Warner is working with patients referred to her by ACHC providers. However, once ACHC’s Diabetes Self-Management Program becomes fully accredited, Warner will begin accepting referrals from outside providers as well.
